Case of the Grumpies

I’m not sure what my deal is. Maybe I’m not getting enough sleep. Maybe I’m spreading myself too thin, but for some reason I have a massive case of the grumpies. I don’t get it so much outside of work, but the second I get here, I’m just annoyed. My coworker has this charming habit of talking to herself but making sure I can hear her. Then she acts super sweet and will ask me for help. She’s quite obnoxious and normally I can ignore it. Lately though? I have been fighting the urge to throw things at her. I’ve been working out after work and that seems to help, but then I go back to work and I’m frustrated all over again. You know that lady from Office Space? The one that says, “Sounds like somebody has a case of the Mondays!” That’s HER. Groan.

Queen of the Fine Arts

So blogging has become a real passion of mine as of late. I finally roped my friend into it and I wanted to give everyone a chance to read it. Queen of the Fine Arts has a gift for gab, and it shows in her writing. I’m just excited she finally got on board with the rest of us bloggers. Go Queenie!

Team in Training

My best friend and I have decided its time to get into shape. We wanted to sign up for the Nike Women’s Marathon but it’s sold out to the public. Then we heard about Team in Training. It’s basically a fund raising program that helps raise money for leukemia and lymphoma research. In exchange for us helping to raise funds, TNT basically whoops our butts into shape. We’re going to be working out six days a week, a few days on our own, and then the rest of the time with team members and coaches. I am really excited to get in shape, but at the same time I’m excited to support a good cause. Check out the website they gave me to help raise funds. Team in Training is all over the US so check them out! I will be running the Nike Half Marathon in October, and I’m stoked to get started.

8 Random Things About Me!

Thanks for the Tag Ruthie! This is a lot of fun!

Here are the rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment on their blog and tell them they’ve been tagged, and to come back and read your blog for the whole story

Ok, let’s see, 8 Random Things about this lil Bug:

1. I can pick up objects with my toes.

2. I have a degree in zoology that I will most likely never use, except to offer random facts at cocktail parties.

3. I am a karaoke junkie and will get up on the microphone at every opportunity.

4. Everyone in my family calls me Bug; it’s been my nickname since I was a baby.

5. I am slightly OCD

6. I am afraid of spiders, but I can handle snakes no problem.

7. My great great grandparents came to Oregon on the Oregon Trail.

8. I love to quote movies and tv shows, and I will work a quote or reference into most conversations.

Here’s my 8 tagged people.

Pixiemom, Tamzen, Hannabanana, Extrinsic-Phenom, Jasmine, LiveLife, Connie, Freiheit

Dandruff Friends

There are friends in our lives that I like to call Dandruff Friends. These are the people that are the kind of flakey you want your pie crust to be. When they do finally make plans they get pissy if for some reason you have to cancel, even if you give them plenty of warning. I just have to say, to all my dandruff friends, enough. I’m getting head and shoulders and I’m so getting rid of you!!

40 Days Without Chocolate

For Lent, I came up with the bright idea to give up chocolate. Now I’m in no way catholic. No offense to those individuals out there who practice such a religion, to each their own. I won’t get into any sort of religious debate because this blog is meant for entertainment. I don’t doist as the Catholics do, difference of opinion. All I will say is I participated in Lent pretty much to see if I could go a full 40 days without chocolate. It doesn’t sound so difficult, but let me tell you it was.

The first day I did fine. No chocolate in sight, all was well. That night I came home to the smell of freshly baked brownies cooling on the counter. My roommate had the brilliant idea to cook them, forgetting my vow. It was torture, pure and simple. Over the next few weeks the torture became progressively worse, especially with parties and social gatherings. My friend’s birthday was the worst. There was this glorious chocolate cake with fudge frosting. I swear it actually taunted me at one point.

I managed to make it the full 40 days, and that Good Friday I splurged like you wouldn’t believe. Chocolate cheesecake with oreo cookie crust, smothered in chocolate sauce. Oh yes. Ohhhhh yes.

So that was my experience with Lent. I’m not sure if giving up something for 40 days is such a great idea. It’s like when you starve yourself and splurge later. If I hadn’t given it up, perhaps I would have just eaten a little, instead of gobbling down a giant piece of cake later. It’s sort of my dieting philosophy. Eat what you crave, in small portions. If you have a really strong craving, you’re not going to be satisfied until you eat what you’re craving. So everything in moderation, and then work out accordingly. If you’re going to indulge in that amazing piece of pie, well then you better get your butt on the treadmill! I guess I better get to jogging!

What’s my motivation?

I’ve had a serious case of the I don’t give a F**ks. (I borrowed that joke from Dana Carvey, who I saw live last weekend. Hilarious!!) I don’t know what it is but lately I’ve had zero motivation to do anything productive. Work has been extremely slow, and instead of coming up with new projects, or studying for my microsoft cert, I’ve been surfing the web and slacking off in general. I really need to get motivated, because I love my job and I love it when it’s busy. It’s hard to get excited about studying for the cert though. Everytime I open the book I get the urge to take a nap.

Ironically in my personal life I’ve been extremely motivated. I’m trying to get in shape for the always dreaded bikini season. I have been running, ab and butt crunching my way through the afternoons. Sadly I’m not seeing results nearly as quickly as I did a few years ago. What is it about 24 and the slowing down of my metabolism? Grrr.
